When i have to compare what i have learned in high school, compared to what i am learning now in college, i have to say that much of the classes that i took in high school can be considered with the description of jumping through hoops, because i just wanted to take a classes to get credits and get done with it. But in the mean time, i learned many basic skills and concepts from my math, writing, and science classes that if i havent taken them in high school, i would be suffering in college.
Now when i think what college classes will do to help improve my skills is much greater than high school...I havent taken enough college classes yet to determine this but i am going to assume that it will be much more worthwhile once im in college.
Without high school, i wouldnt have had the basis to enter college and be successful. Therefore, high school has helped me retain more useful knowledge, both inside and outside the classroom, such as interacting with my peers. If i didnt know how to do this in high school, then college would have steam rolled over me.
-thats my interpertation of #1 :),
