Today we were given a lecture by a professor of high understanding and knowledge about this speech.
My thoughts and Ideas about all of this:
We don't know what we got till it is gone. That can be said with even the simplest things in life....A loved one, an awesome gaming system, a lucky pencil, the ability to choose what you want to eat in the morning.... As i said up top, we, ALL of us, take things for advantage and do not appreciate them as much as we should. Only when we get a reality check or something major happens in our life that makes us reflect and say wow... then we start to take more of an interest in what we have.
I feel that FDR understood that Americans did not realize that they had the luxury of living in a nation that did not harbor you about simple little things. Our Freedoms. He wanted to not just tell, but show Americans by making them realize what it would be like without these simple luxuries. One of FDR's main points in his speech is that in order to keep, protect, and nourish our already bountiful and prosperous lives, that we need to sacrifice and sacrifice to see the final goal in the end during a time of need. ONLY by placing into the minds of Americans that there might be a chance that our Freedoms, the ones that we use every day, might be taken over by a ruthless dictator or another non-democratic government would we actually take the time to think and say we need to fight for what we have.
Because of this, I think all of us need to take more time to realize and appreciate the great civil and open country that we live in and all of the municipal, basic, complex or Whatever freedoms that we do have, and pray for those nations that do not have the ability to experience what we have. Because who knows, we might have the ability to do something today, and it might be gone tomorrow....
